I'll first test out adding a really huge picture that exceeds the 500kb limit I set. 8-) Okay, well, it did upload it to the server, and it's about 720kb. Let's see if it will post.

Okay, it did post, and as I saw it post, I remembered about the config setting to compress 70%. That should explain it. So, for fun, I'm going to attempt to post a ridiculously big 8mb picture file here, and, it should get denied. Let's see.

Okay, as you can see below the 8mb file was allowed to upload and post. That's why we test these things out of course. 8-o I thought the restrictions were set for 500 kb, and, I need to go back and adjust that. Initially, I didn't resize the picture width using the ”?pixel setting,” and one thing that is good to see, though, is that the extended width didn't break the layout. It automagically added a scroll bar to the bottom of the page. I like that a lot. I had to hack phpBB some years back so it wouldn't break the layout with too-wide images. It's conceivable that somebody could post a somewhat compressed or low-quality image that's, say, 1000px wide, and, it's cool to know that the layout won't crumble.

Update: In php.ini I changed upload_max_filesize to 1M … now, I'm going to try to change the name of the same 8mb file and attempt to upload it. It shouldn't work. Okay, good, it didn't work. It didn't give an error message; that's all right. Most people probably aren't going to try and upload anything greater than 1MB anyway…but, just in case, this will prevent it.

I just did another test with a 2MB picture, and it wouldn't upload either. We could either try coding in an error message…or, what would be easier would be adding the information to a FAQ page.
